Governance on Stacks isn't mysterious. Who holds the weight, how big the pool is, and who bothers to show up — that's the whole battlefield. Here it is, live from the chain, cycle 139.
Under Nakamoto, signing weight is power in its rawest form: a bloc with more than 30% of the weight can stall block production, and 70% controls what gets signed at all. When five entities hold over half the stacked weight, "decentralized" is a marketing word. Every one of these signers is also a massive voter in every SIP. Watch this number — if it grows, the chain is consolidating under the people who already run it.
Every share on this site — the establishment's, ours — is measured against this pool of 552M locked STX. Locked coins can't hop between wallets, which is why we weigh pledges by them: stacked weight is the one number nobody can fake. When our counted weight grows against this denominator, that's real ground taken.
A SIP doesn't need the whole network to pass — it needs roughly 80% yes from the STX that actually votes, historically around 132M. Flip that around: about a fifth of the turnout — near 26M STX voting NO together — blocks anything. Low turnout has always been the establishment's best friend. It becomes their problem the day an organized minority starts showing up as one.
These keys sign the blocks and carry the weight. Follow any of them into the explorer and see exactly what they control — it's all public, which is rather the point.
One thing to keep straight: most of these are pools and custodians signing with STX that thousands of holders delegated to them. Signing weight is theirs; the SIP vote still belongs to each holder. If you stack through one of them, your voice is yours — and it belongs in the count.
